Physics Building and National High Magnetic Field Laboratories

Gainesville, FL

Description

One of the most advanced teaching and research facilities on campus, the 225,000 sf building consolidates activities formerly housed in four different facilities in a single state-of-the-art building, designed to support a department ranked by the National Academy of Sciences as the most improved in the nation. Selective in its growth plans and focused on programs considered to be frontier fields of research into the 21st century, the department’s continuing momentum has been demonstrated through the success of the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory—a program encompassing many research initiatives—from new materials for superconductors to the advanced imaging techniques of magnetic resonance. Housing the entire department of physics, the building features a 350-seat auditorium, teaching and research labs, and offices and support space for three interdisciplinary Research Centers and Institutes.
