Description
The 90,000 sf, Student Services Building & Crossroads Dining Facility consolidates facilities once dispersed about campus. Through its handsome form, the building honors its architectural heritage, acknowledging the topography of Berkeley Hills and neighbors as the historic Shingle-style Anna Head School and Bernard Maybeck’s great Christian Science Church. Adopting a sustainable approach, the design maximizes the introduction of daylight and minimizes the use of “applied” decoration. Polished concrete floors, plaster walls and creatively treated acoustical ceilings establish a simple look, durable and easy to maintain. The new building, a contemporary facility, is responsive and visually appropriate to its neighborhood context.
