Description
The three-story 130,000 sf Juvenile Courthouse is the new focal point of the Maricopa County Juvenile Detention Center in Phoenix, Arizona. Designed to reinforce the Juvenile Probation Department’s mission of rehabilitation, the L-shaped building configuration defines a large public entry plaza. The office wing is a precisely articulated volume with a highly varied window pattern, while the courtroom wing, with its prominent glass and aluminum curtain wall framed in brick and large projecting trellis, creates a strong civic presence and unites the building visually with the existing campus. An abundance of natural light to all public and staff places, pleasant colors, and a simple, easily understood circulation system create a non-institutional setting that exudes openness yet remains secure
