An Ideas Based Practice

Union Memorial Hospital

Curtis National Center for Surgery of the Hand

Baltimore, MD

Description

The Curtis National Center provides a therapeutic and healing environment that reinforces the stature of the facility as a National Center of Excellence. Clearly visible from reception/waiting through expansive interior glass panels, the hand therapy area distinguishes itself as the focal point of the Center and conveys the positive message to patients that their injuries are not a limitation to be hidden. Signage and graphic systems are visually and functionally integrated within the architecture and operations of the National Hand Center and include graphic illustrations, interactive kiosks, memorabilia exhibits and timeline artwork. The renovation enhances the Center’s national leadership through effective facility planning in five critical staff areas – Patient Care, Research, National Network, Information Technology and Training – all of which contributed to productivity, cost efficiency and improved patient satisfaction/patient-provider interaction.
