An Ideas Based Practice

Buffalo-Niagara International Airport

Passenger Terminal

Buffalo, NY

Description

Creating a new airport that captures the spirit of the people and places of Western New York, this gateway to the Niagara region has become an instant landmark. Enhancing passenger convenience, operational simplicity, and functional efficiency, the creative expression of its principal design elements expresses the vision of the terminal as a symbol of travel, establishing the building’s distinctive massing and profile. A subsequent 100,000 sf expansion accommodates increases in passenger traffic and airline capacity. Creating an extension of the original design, the new building incorporates a large, curving skylight and fully glazed walls that enhance visibility to the runways, planes and surroundings, with a “glassy link” serving as a transition between the original and expanded sections.
