An Ideas Based Practice

Sinai Temple

Akiba Academy

Los Angeles, CA

Description

Located on a restricted urban site in West Los Angeles, this project incorporated 60,000 sf of new classrooms, special function rooms, and outdoor play areas for students from pre-school through eighth grade. A 150,000 sf, four-level subterranean parking garage, accommodates parking for both Temple and school functions.

The form of the building creates a variety of outdoor courtyards and terraces, while the massing, expressed as distinct components to reduce the scale of the facility, creates a transition from the large-scale character of Wilshire Boulevard to the residential neighborhood south of the project.
