Jack Nicklaus Golf Club of Korea

New Songdo City, South Korea

Description

With an 18-hole championship golf course and driving range designed by Jack Nicklaus, Songdo Villas and Clubhouse, Korea’s first golf community, offers city elegance and convenience combined with tranquil views of the ocean and a nature preserve. Sited on reclaimed marine land with extensive water features, the development is expected to set the standard of excellence for private golf clubs and lifestyle communities throughout Asia.

The centerpiece of the complex is a 50,000 sf clubhouse designed to reveal itself gradually over time. As sunlight passes through certain openings at different times of day, community members are greeted by freshly revealed details and surprising visual connections to the golf course that shift as they move through the space. Articulation, massing, and roof abstractly recall golf course elements, with the foreground and approach to the clubhouse resembling a fairway and roof contours that echo the rolling greens. An elegant, restful atmosphere, evoked by a rich material palette, balances the stimulating visual connections to the landscape.

The focus upon the natural setting extends to the design of the 151 individual villas, with balconies and large expanses of glass emphasizing the connection to nature. To articulate neighborhoods and foster a sense of place, unique architectural features distinguish four villas. Residents enjoy access to an exclusive Residence Club. The development also includes a gate house, shade houses for rest and refreshment, and an instructional center.
