Olympic Games Bid Committee, London 2012

Venue Design and Planning Services

London, England

Description

Won in July 2005 in the most glamorous and hotly contested bid race in Olympic history, the 2012 Summer Games will be London’s first Olympics since 1948.

In winter 2003, the London 2012 Bid Committee retained Cannon Design to investigate which Olympic sports could be accommodated in several iconic London venues in an intensive 10-week process that evaluated 18 venues, half of which were selected for inclusion in the final bid proposal. Among the recommendations were the use of Horse Guards Parade as the venue for beach volleyball, the Lords Cricket Ground for archery, and Greenwich Park for equestrian events, as well as other recommendations for Regents Park, Royal Albert Hall, Crystal Palace, The Oval, and Wembley Arena.
