Description
To better serve Bermuda’s 68,000 citizens and 600,000 visitors, the Bermuda Hospitals Board commissioned Cannon Design to prepare a 20-year National Health Services Master Plan with the goal of modernizing clinical services, facilities, and equipment; attract and retain quality staff; and optimize functional and physical relationships between individual departments and clinical services. Cannon undertook a comprehensive review of all current facilities, operation and national healthcare objectives, in addition to conducting a national market analysis, surveys of physical condition and equipment and space utilization. Based upon this information, a series of design options for the future of the Bermuda Healthcare System was conceived, focused on developing a new hospital and apportioning non-acute healthcare services island-wide as satellite campuses of care, each of which includes a continuing care facility, group homes, and a primary care center. The central campus also accommodates a new mental health hospital.
