The renovation and seating expansion of a landmark competition track and soccer field at Cornell University filters and optimizes pedestrian circulation by locating the stadium’s main entrance at the end of an existing walkway and creating a new, parallel path linking two campus roads, encouraging entry of spectators through numerous gates between bleacher sections. The two major outdoor spaces – practice fields to the west and the competition track and soccer field to the east – are innovatively partitioned by an eight-foot-tall masonry wall extending north and south beyond the length of the seating, with a “garden wall” appearance unifying the landscape.
