Public Works and Water Treatment Facility

Beverly Hills, CA

Description

Encompassing offices, shop facilities, and public-works employee service areas, the Public Works and Water Treatment Facility is a building of quiet and distinguished character in a mixed residential and commercial area. Rather than emphasize the building’s high-security features, the building reveals its internal activity to passersby via a lanternlike glass entrance overhung by a wave-shaped elliptical roof. An elliptical multipurpose room clad in undulating channel-glass offers a direct visual connection to the water plant itself. Echoing the curves of the multipurpose room, an outdoor amphitheater accommodates performances and casual gatherings. At the amphitheater’s center, a fountain provides a literal, playful celebration of water.
