Description
Recipient of American School & University’s William W. Caudill Citation, the highest national honor for public school design excellence, this middle school for 1,000 students also functions as a comprehensive community resource in one of the inner city’s most difficult neighborhoods. The 185,000 sf building has been recognized as an “exceptional urban solution” few suburbs could rival. Planned for 1,000 students, the design uses a dedicated “house” concept linked by a primary circulation path. This student street, traveled by all daily, creates an animated and protected internal focus for the entire building, fostering communication and interaction among users.
