An Ideas Based Practice

Boston University

Life Science and Engineering Building

Boston, MA

Description

Dedicated to the fields of biology, chemistry, biomedical engineering, and bioinformatics, the 184,000 sf Center houses laboratories for university, private and grant-driven research, as well as two BME classrooms, a 144-seat seminar room, and conference center. A central receiving and chemical-dispensing facility serves the new building as well as existing laboratories to either side. The design responds to challenges including a dense urban site, a small footprint, city height restrictions and demanding square-footage requirements for research space—delivering a building that is 65 percent efficient.
