Description
Because Northwest Community Healthcare’s philosophy is one of holistic healing and wellness, a major component of its master plan was a new wellness center. With a glass spine running its entire length, this three-story, 85,000 sf building incorporates nature and natural light and encourages human interaction. A cost-effective structural steel system helped maximize the volume of open space by enabling a larger bay size and smaller foundations. This system also easily accommodates program flexibility and plan modifications. The wellness center comprises three major components: a fitness area, with volleyball and basketball courts, an elevated running track, free weights, aerobics, and cardiovascular and progressive resistance equipment; a clinic area, with sports medicine and cardiac rehabilitation clinics and a warm water therapy pool; and a community service area, with a children’s activity space, a cafe, a library, and conference facilities.
