Description
The 325,000 sf inpatient and acute-care replacement addition connects to the existing complex at six strategic floor levels, providing efficient adjacencies despite a significant difference in floor-to-floor heights. The 356-bed addition contains 90 percent of the patient beds, consolidating services that formerly were spread among 13 separate buildings and providing technologically advanced diagnostic and treatment facilities, emergency and outpatient services, clinical and research laboratories, and educational components.
Meticulous planning allowed the medical center to maintain operations without interruption until the new replacement addition was completed. Key components include pediatric unit, emergency department, obstetrical services department, critical care center and an upgraded surgical suite. A new front entrance enhances the sense of arrival and completely transforms the image of the medical center.
