Description
Designed to capitalize upon the iconic quality of an existing historic building, establish a new campus image and improve the overall experience for patients, staff, and visitors, the 160,000 sf addition to Long Island’s South Nassau Communities Hospital adds 108 medical/surgical beds, LDRs, an obstetrical suite, and a behavioral health unit. Beneath the curved volume of the building, a welcoming two-story lobby accommodates public functions, including information, patient relations, administration, a 300-seat auditorium, gift shop, and pre-function area. Directly connected to the main lobby, a central conservatory between the two buildings provides a restful, light-filled environment with access to outdoor courtyards. Elevated bridges link the two buildings through the conservatory, and waiting lounges overlook the space, sharing its cascade of daylight.
