Description
Intuitive wayfinding was one of the highest priorities in the design of the St. Francis Center for Health along with provisions for incremental growth and adaptability. At the heart of the 136,000 sf complex is a central courtyard encircled by a gracious, light-filled concourse, a dramatic interior space that offers nearly immediate visibility and convenient access to every destination upon arrival. Clinical services—a diagnostic center, urgent care, radiology, surgery, women’s health and a breast center—flank the concourse. Physicians’ offices are concentrated in a four-story block tied to the concourse in a modular layout that facilitates sharing of support spaces, staff and equipment. To respond to changes in healthcare delivery, each element of the Center can expand independently with minimal disruption to other operations, key to a building designed to double in size
