Carisima Koenig—an accomplished designer, planner and manager of academic environments—has been promoted to co-lead the firm’s education practice in New York City. Carisima will partner with Phil Dordai to further develop the practice by advancing the delivery of creative design solutions for clients.

“Carisima’s leadership and expertise extends throughout the education landscape,” said Bradley Lukanic, CannonDesign’s Education Practice Leader. “She partners with clients on services from academic master planning, to design and project management across building typologies. Her insight and skills in solving complex issues are the foundation of her leadership and a testament to her client partnership dedication.”

With a solid history of understanding clients’ expectations, Carisima prioritizes and aligns institutional expectations, visions and goals. Her passion is found within higher education environments and methodologies, which allow for growth and discovery. Her new responsibilities will contribute to CannonDesign’s success by advancing business development and client engagement strategies, continuing team leadership, mentoring young professionals and further developing the firm’s design excellence.

“The education landscape is constantly evolving so partnering and developing progressive strategies with our clients is critical,” said Carisima. “The challenges and possibilities that span Pre-K-12, four-year institutions and community colleges constantly engage designers in rethinking and developing approaches that connect global trends and local perspectives. This dynamic demands working closely for the best institutional outcomes.”Carisima is a published author and a visiting instructor at Pratt Institute’s Graduate Architecture and Urban Design for the past decade. Her real-world academic experience enriches her understanding of education and imparts lessons-learned to her students as they develop within the architecture field.
