Resilient design strategies

As major devastating hurricanes and super storms become more frequent, it’s time for organizations to focus on resilient design: the creation of solutions for organizations and communities to adapt to, withstand and recover from disturbances over time.

A new piece in the American Society for Testing and Materials Standardization (ASTM) news entitled Weathering the Weather focuses on resilient design strategies and features commentary from CannonDesign’s Brett Farbstein – a senior commissioning engineer and leader of the firm’s resiliency task force. The article focuses on current efforts to make buildings more resilient and better able to withstand natural disasters and recover.

As Farbstein notes in the piece,

The primary objectives of implementing resilience strategies is to protect people and property investments and to lessen the disruption to our normal activities caused by adverse events.
