Lima Represents Cannon Design at Summit on Universal Design

Cannon Design Principal, Gustavo Lima, represented the firm at the first Global Summit on Universal Design, held recently in Syracuse, NY. Universal Design (UD) encompasses the design of built environments and products usable by all people, to the greatest extent possible, regardless of capabilities, without the need for adaptation or specialized design. Universal design is all inclusive.
The Global Universal Design Commission (GUDC) has the goal of fostering the adoption of UD standards across the world. The Summit introduced the draft standards to stakeholders, and celebrated the adoption of the GUDC goals by the city of Quito, Ecuador. Cannon Design is collaborating with the University at Buffalo’s IDEA Center to incorporate Universal Design principles in the development of UB’s South Ellicott Housing Complex.
