Chan Byun Joins Cannon Design as Design Principal

Bringing over 24 years of experience to the firm, Chan Byun, AIA, LEED AP, has focused his career on the design of institutional projects; in particular, healthcare facilities. In his role as Design Leader, Byun will not only be responsible for strengthening Cannon Design’s practice in the Western New York region, but also lending his talents and expertise to assignments firmwide. Byun’s design philosophy is built on the belief that each project is unique within its own context, look and feel. His design strives to enhance as well as respect the existing campus.
His work has been recognized with numerous professional awards, including the International Healthcare Award from World Architecture News, the AIA National Healthcare Award, R&D’s Laboratory of the Year award, Brick in Architecture’s Best in Class, and BOMA’s Building of the Year. His work has been published in leading national journals, including Architect, Architecture, Progressive Architecture, Modern Healthcare, and Healthcare Design.
Byun holds a Bachelors of Architecture from Cornell University and a Masters of Architecture from Harvard Graduate School of Design. A former Adjunct Professor at the Wentworth Institute of Architecture in Boston, Byun has served as a guest critic at Northeastern University, Pratt Institute, and the City College of New York.
