Mark Whiteley Sees Need For Change In Scientific Community

Posted August 2012

Cannon Design's  Science and Technology Practice Leader, Mark Whiteley, RIBA, has authored his first article for The Huffington Post which focuses on designing and developing “New Scientific Workplaces” which embrace collaboration and innovation for the scientific community.

The article references several facilities that are leading the way in this effort including the Kaleida Health, Clinical and Medical Research Building: Gates Vascular Institute (GVI) and UB Clinical Translational Research Center/Incubator (CTRC), CJ Corporation,  CJ Only One R&D Center and Sabanci University Nanotechnology Research Center.

The first paragraph from the article can be read below and the entire article is available via this link.

"Scientific organizations have lagged behind the dynamic changes that have occurred in other businesses. Although science has consistently led the knowledge economy, its siloed nature, underfunding, and linear processes have progressively reduced it to a transactional operation. Reacting to these conditions, a new paradigm is emerging — one in which a new scientific generation is dispensing with traditional methods and moving to a creative mode focused on solving the world’s challenges and enhancing the human condition."
