CannonDesign’s Healthcare Advisory Services emerges from the idea that the services we provide to clients need to be integrated—embracing “ideas” rather than the conventional thinking of what a design firm has traditionally encompassed.
For many years, we have witnessed a less-than-optimal system of project definition and delivery that embraces only portions of the problem. Through our Healthcare Advisory Services, we advocate for a new manner of working: one that integrates healthcare professionals and design professionals to examine how transforming healthcare delivery can alter and be impacted by changes in the physical environment of healthcare facilities.
Our team of clinical innovation, product development, process design, Lean simulation and experiential modeling experts utilize some of the most inventive approaches available. In place of a model that allows data without context to drive critical decisions, is a process rooted in an understanding of where you are and where you want to be. From here, solutions are tested against the backdrop of the mission, vision and principles that speak to the core of who your organization is and will be in the future.
Manuel Hernandez, MD, MBA, FACEP
With more than 20 years of administrative and clinical experience in both the private and public healthcare sectors, Manny Hernandez is a member of the health practice’s core team—leading the firm’s Healthcare Advisory Services initiative—an essential component of the firm’s architectural team structure that provides consulting services to help optimize clinical operations, service excellence, strategic planning initiatives and improve financial outcomes for healthcare organizations. He also brings his clinical expertise to the research platform where he advises on measuring the performance of design solutions on occupant and building performance.
A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Hernandez holds a Master’s of Business Administration from the University of California at Irvine and has been an invited presenter on the performance and operational efficiency of healthcare facilities. He has authored numerous publications; most recently a series of four essays for Emergency Physicians International on the operational efficiencies of Emergency Rooms, and is a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians.Email Manuel Hernandez »
T. Christopher Cooper, RN, MHA, MIM
A seasoned clinician, healthcare executive and industrial engineer, Chris Cooper’s focus is on operational, strategic and design initiatives and their interrelationship as transformative tools for healthcare delivery. As a Principal within Healthcare Advisory Services—a vital consultancy component to the firm’s healthcare practice—Cooper leverages his advanced clinical and healthcare advisory skills to support a wide variety of facility and non-facility challenges facing CannonDesign’s clients.
As part of the advisory services team, Cooper serves as senior nurse executive and clinical thought leader, providing insight on the future of healthcare, strategic planning, clinical process optimization, and experiential design.
A registered nurse, Cooper holds both a Master of Health Administration and Master of Information Management from Washington University in St. Louis and a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN. A seasoned healthcare senior executive, Mark Vaughan's 25+ years of experience spans healthcare strategy, business and capital planning, financial analysis, market assessment, information technology and master planning. Mark is an officer and engagement lead for Confluence, and brings a unique, results-oriented approach along with diverse experience in multiple industry sectors including healthcare, biotechnology, financial services and retail.
With a Masters in Business Administration from Saint Louis University, Vaughan believes in continually sharpening his skills and knowledge of the latest trends in healthcare, lean processes and strategic planning in order to better serve Healthcare Advisory Services clients.
He has led several key consulting engagements. Julie Dumser’s 30+ year-career as a perioperative nurse offers the firm’s healthcare team and its clients a wealth of experience in direct patient care, healthcare operations, nursing administration and executive leadership. As a member of the Healthcare Advisory Services team, she ensures that care delivery innovations and clinical and operational best practices are strategically integrated into every healthcare project.
A certified LEAN professional and a Six Sigma Green Belt, Dumser promotes the use of process improvement tools to develop clinically efficient environments.
