Cannon Design is pleased to announce Zhe Wang, Ph.D., RA, LEED® AP, has joined the firm as a Senior Researcher Architect.
One of Cannon Design’s major research initiatives has been to identify and recruit an architectural researcher with both demonstrated architectural skills and professional experience. Wang brings to the firm these qualifications, along with an architecture degree, nine years of experience in practice in the US, Singapore and China, and a Ph.D. in Architecture with specialization in design for health and sustainability.
Wang received her Ph.D. from Texas A&M University in 2009, with a research focus on Environment and Healthy Behavior and an emphasis on the elderly. Her dissertation topic was “Nearby Outdoor Environmental Support of Older Adults’ Yard Activities, Neighborhood Walking, and Independent Living in the Community.” She received her Master of Architecture from Texas A&M University, with a Certificate in Health Systems and Design, and received a Bachelor of Engineering in Architecture from Zhengzhou University.
A registered architect in China, Wang practiced architecture for eight years in one of the leading architectural institutes in China, followed by an association with Smallwood, Reynolds, Stewart, Stewart in Singapore.
As a researcher, Wang has investigated topics in architecture, urbanism, sustainability, health, environment and behavior, and active living. She has published a number of first-author and single-author research papers in peer-reviewed journals, publications for the American Institute of Architects, as well as various online publications; presented findings at three international EDRA conferences and two national AIA conferences; and has received awards and grants from the AIA, Nurture by Steelcase and the TX Architectural Foundation.
