In “A New Plan for Patients in Crisis,” authors Carl Hampson, AIA, LEED AP, and Jill Bergman, AIA, LEED AP, ACHA—Vice Presidents at Cannon Design—discuss how the new Pima County Behavioral Health Pavilion and Crisis Response Center in Tuscon, AZ, will change the practice of behavioral healthcare in Southern Arizona. In the article, which appears in the July/August 2009 issue of Behavioral Healthcare, Hampson and Bergman explain the concept of creating an integrated facility that would serve multiple facets of behavioral medicine and fulfill the institutional master plan’s vision for a holistic healing campus. The authors go on to discuss how the program will provide critical relief to the county’s overcrowded emergency and inpatient psychiatric beds and juvenile and adult detention centers by providing multiple treatment options for individuals needing behavioral healthcare.
