Located on a premier site near downtown Chicago, with sweeping views of Lake Michigan, the design of the Prentice Women’s Replacement Hospital was viewed by Northwestern Memorial Hospital as an opportunity to respond to the expressed needs and preferences of women, both for themselves and their family members. The hospital will support patients and caregivers alike, as it will enable a unified and comprehensive approach to healthcare for women through all stages of their lives while responding to the increasing demand for high-quality care. Additionally, the project incorporates sustainable design practices that enabled Prentice to achieve LEED® Silver certification.

Home to one of the largest comprehensive breast centers in the Midwest, an entire floor of the facility is dedicated to a breast imaging suite, which includes 28 diagnostic and screening mammography rooms, five stereotactic rooms, eight ultrasound diagnostic rooms and an MRI. This floor also includes a breast surgery center and a breast oncology suite with 15 infusion spaces. Two linear accelerators located on the lower concourse are dedicated to the treatment of breast cancer, while the fourteenth floor is dedicated to inpatient gyneoncology and the sixteenth floor is inpatient medical oncology.

The facility also includes 328 licensed beds, of which 242 are private in-patient rooms with visitor-friendly services that include Internet access, daybeds and comfortable family-focused waiting areas. With the capacity to accommodate over 13,000 deliveries per year, the hospital features an 86-bassinet neonatal intensive care unit—one of the largest in the country. Additional amenities include a dedicated women’s health center, an education and conference center, on-demand bedside food service and a full-service retail center.
