Bakery Square at Eastside, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

To support the revitalization of Pittsburgh’s resurgent East Liberty neighborhood, we provided planning, architecture and landscape design services for the development of a premier mixed-use lifestyle center. Bakery Square at Eastside, located on the historic Nabisco Bakery site along Penn Avenue, comes to life as a vibrant urban plaza with shopping, dining, green and event spaces.

Our landscape architects focused on creating a pedestrian-friendly core with various interest points that encourage a mix of people to linger in the space.  The main plaza welcomes visitors and serves as a gathering space for concerts, outdoor dining and other special events. The plaza’s pavements, colorful signs, sculptures and banners help create a lively experience, while benches, ample lighting and bike racks are located throughout to accommodate visitors. The design of Bakery Square has gone beyond a typical urban mixed-used space to create a delightful destination for all who visit and work there — including more than 300 Google employees.

Together, we create design solutions to the greatest challenges facing our clients and society.
