Richard J. Daley College Manufacturing Technology & Engineering Center Wins Education IIDA Award

We are pleased to announce the Daley College Manufacturing Technology & Engineering Center has received a 2021 Education International Interior Design Association (IIDA) Award.

IIDA has announced the winners of its 2021 Interior Design Competition. Awards honor achievement in outstanding interior architecture and design that encourages and uses innovative interior design ideas, techniques and furnishings.

The 63,200-sf Manufacturing Technology & Engineering Center (MTEC) at Daley College, one of the City Colleges of Chicago, overlooks the main entrance of campus, boasting bright colors inside and out. The state-of-the-art building features a high bay manufacturing space, six labs, four classrooms, administrative offices and communal areas for students that provide the skills and training needed for highly specialized, technology-oriented careers. From the brightly colored pedestrian bridge that connects MTEC to Daley’s main facility to the fully equipped learning spaces within, large windows and interior glass walls create fluidity throughout the building.

CannonDesign served as Education Planner and Architect, Architect of Record, Structural Engineer and MEP/FP Engineer on the project. JGMA served as the design architect.

In addition to the Education IIDA award, the project also received a 2020 Best Higher Education Project award from Engineering-News Record, Midwest.
