We are proud to announce that our team was a Gold Winner in the Healthcare Design Remodel/Renovation Competition in the Budget-Friendly category for our Advocate Aurora Health Lutheran General Hospital Neuro ICU project.
Advocate Aurora Health Lutheran General Hospital Neuro ICU renovation was a small project with a big impact. It transforms an under-utilized space on the seventh floor in the Classic Tower of the hospital’s main campus, built in the 1960s, into a state-of-the-art neuro ICU unit that enhances patient and family experience, addresses the hospital’s increasing volume in neuro/stroke critical care unit and provides a seamless operational flow between ICU and surgical step-down unit.
A critical component to the project’s success was the engagement of physicians and the nursing team, who brought valuable insights to elevate the design. The team proposed using an adjustable exam light typically used in labor and delivery rooms for physicians to better examine a patient’s head, and the patient room layout and flow accommodates the use of mobile imaging equipment. The physician team also decided to share offices to make a consultation room with soft seating and a view to the outdoors. The space provides a private and comfortable environment for the medical team to have conversations with family members.
