The Healthcare Design Showcase honors the very best design and architecture in the healthcare industry. Mount Sinai Medical Center was one of six that received award status, with 39 submissions total.
According to Healthcare Design, this year’s jury included 17 architects, interior designers, owners and other industry experts in healthcare design. Projects were reviewed against four criteria: innovation, collaboration, aesthetics and functionality/operational performance.
Mount Sinai’s new emergency department and patient tower reflects and showcases Miami Beach’s distinctive landscape and culture by putting the stunning coastal views on display through a grand, light-filled atrium and floor-to-ceiling windows in patient rooms. A dramatic façade is designed with compound curves instead of traditional straight lines to enhance visual impact and provide a contemporary take on Miami’s deep-rooted art deco heritage. As a coastal city vulnerable to weather-related disasters, the design of this project creates a fortress that can withstand hurricane-force winds, 100-year flood levels and extended power outages.
Bayhealth Hospital, Sussex Campus in Delaware and Children’s Hospital of Orange County, Thompson Autism Center were also featured in the showcase.
