A Sweet Treat: NPR Features CannonDesign Team in Gingerbread Creation Story

Fifty-two teams of architects, engineers and designers descended upon “Gingertown, DC” for David M. Schwarz Architects’ 13th annual design-build gingerbread competition – including a team from our DC office. Our sugary creation was featured extensively in a story about the event on NPR’s Weekend Edition Sunday and in an article online.

The theme this year was to recreate the city of Venice, a poignant subject for these designers considering the recent flooding and global warming concerns in that area.

Our DC office team of Max Hurley, Cheng Gao, Christen Fairley, Daniel Olberding and Hunter Young created a U-shaped building with a courtyard and also overcame a last-minute roof collapse — all detailed throughout the feature.
