CannonDesign Wins AIA Illinois Honor Award

We’re honored to share that our team’s work on the Planned Agricultural District (PAD): A Vision for West Garfield was awarded the AIA Illinois’s 2019 Daniel Burnham Award, an award recognizing master planning or implementation of a master plan.

The Chicago office of CannonDesign hosted the awards reception, where Stacey Pfingsten, AIA IL Executive Vice President, and Janeen Harrell, AIA IL President-Elect, presented the award. Participants on the project included Michael Kmak, AIA, LEED AP, Billy Raleigh, AIA and Timothy Walser, Assoc. AIA, who were present to accept the award.

“This masterplan focuses on encouraging mixed-use development, the creation of vibrant public spaces, and defining an enhanced neighborhood identity for West Garfield Park. We believe that all people deserve the right to a livable community,” said the project team.  “We hope to provide a new framework for any community to redefine and rebuild without systemic roadblocks that have allowed years of neglect and disinvestment.”

The PAD also previously won an AIA Chicago 2018 Design Excellence Award for Unbuilt Forward, Special Recognition.
