Our Bob Fatovic is set to deliver a presentation titled, “Major sports and entertainment venues as generators for urban development and redevelopment” at the 25th International Association for Sports and Leisure Facilities (IAKS) Congress in Cologne, Germany on Nov. 7. Bob’s presentation will focus on the award-winning TD Place Stadium at Lansdowne Park, a venue that establishes an exciting new paradigm for sports facility design. The stadium revitalizes the historic park as it departs from the notion of a stadium as an inert building and instead positions itself as an event-based art in which people and built form intersect. This is achieved through a public space/park concourse that encircles the stadium, providing the public opportunities to flow through the stadium structure while still in the park. TD Place at Lansdowne Park is home to the CFL’s Ottawa Redblacks, USL’sOttawa Fury and the Ottawa 67 and also hosted the 2015 Women’s World Cup.
The IAKS Congress for the Design, Construction and Modernization and Management of Sports and Leisure Facilities is a world-renowned international forum for experts in sports and stadium design. This year’s event is focused on the diverse difficulties governments face as they work to fund, deliver and operate leading-edge sports facilities.
