CannonDesign thought leaders will showcase our health expertise with numerous presentations at this year’s Healthcare Design Expo and Conference (HCD). The four-day event – devoted to healthcare environments and their impact on safety, operation, clinical outcomes, and financial success of healthcare facilities now and into the future – will include five educational sessions featuring CannonDesigners.
Monday, November 12
At 9:45 a.m., Tim Rommel, along with Kayvan Madani-Nejad Ph.D. of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, will present “Integrated, Outpatient Mental Healthcare: A New Paradigm for Clinic Design.” Tim and Kayvan will highlight how the Veterans Administration has developed some of the most progressive clinic designs utilized for care. This session will demonstrate how their PAC model, based on a collaborative core, is now being adapted to incorporate and accommodate mental healthcare into the model to truly provide whole-person care.
Also starting at 9:45 a.m., our own Carlos Amato along with Dr. William Undie Ed.D., MBA, R.T., Associate Professor, Research Faculty Appointment, Diagnostic Imaging Program Director at The University of Texas, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and Morris Stein FAIA, FACHA, Principal and Senior Vice President Regional Director at HKS Architects will co-present “Reality Check: The Continuing Collision of Health, Technology, and Design.” Their presentation will look both inside and outside of medicine to the multiple forces of change that can potentially influence future health facilities’ planning and design, sharing research focused on solutions that meld health, technology, and design.
At 4:45 p.m., Natalie Petzoldt will join experts from Washington University in St. Louis – Amy Eyler, Ph.D, Associate Professor, School of Social Work and Xiaobo Quan PhD, EDAC, Professor of Practice, Director, Center for Health Research & Design – along with Grace Cuddihee, Director of Planning, Design, Construction and Real Estate of BJC HealthCare to present findings from an evaluation study on the healthcare workplace. Their session, titled “Optimization of Workplace Design in Healthcare: A Mixed Methods Study,” will discuss recent research on the effects of workplace design that impact healthcare worker health, satisfaction, productivity, and the effectiveness of workspace utilization.
Tuesday, November 13
Our own Christy Cavataio and Matthew Forman will present “Eight-step Project Management: Bringing North America’s Largest Hospital Construction Project to Life” at 1:15 p.m. This session will provide a comprehensive introduction into Centre Hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM) – one of the largest projects ever to be modeled in Autodesk Revit – to offer lessons learned from planning and design, project management, team communication, and BIM coordination for future mega healthcare projects.
At 2:30 p.m., Todd Accardi, along with Carrie Condry NCIDQ, EDAC, LEED AP, Senior Equipment Manager at IMEG Corp. and Natalie Pritchard BS, CNA, Project Manager – Surgical Services at Froedtert Health – Froedtert Hospital, will present “Metrics Validating the Success of an Integrated Procedural Platform.” This session will examine strategies the teams utilized to successfully implement the vision of Froedtert Hospital and the Medical College of Wisconsin’s new integrated procedural platform, discuss lessons learned along the way, and track how this new environment is affecting operational metrics.
In addition to our educational sessions, you can catch other leaders from CannonDesign throughout the conference. On Sun., Nov. 11 our team will be on hand to accept numerous honors during the awards luncheon, including the Award of Merit for CHUM in the Design Showcase and a Rising Star Award being presented to our own Stephanie Vito for her work in behavioral healthcare.
