Joan Suchomel will be co-presenting, “2017 AIA/AAH Healthcare Design Awards,” at the AIA Conference on Architecture 2018 (A’18) on June 21 in New York. Joan – who served in 2016 as President of the AIA Academy of Architecture for Health (AAH), previous to her joining CannonDesign – will join a panel of industry experts to present all seven 2017 award-winning projects and share details that stood out in both winning and non-winning entries.
In 2017, UC San Diego Health’s Jacobs Medical Center received this esteemed honor, with the AIA/AAH jury stating that the exterior has a “feeling of fluidity that tracks all the way around the building” and that the interior “exudes a sense of calm in a spa-like atmosphere that says you are cared for here.” When reflecting on the building as a whole, the AIA/AAH jury’s key phrase was “total design integration” based on how the hospital demonstrates a “consistent design vocabulary, inside and out.”
If you’re interested in how design helps define the clinical model of care, which aspects of design contribute to a patient-centered environment, or how to promote your own design success, this session is for you.
