Jocelyn Stroupe, director of our healthcare interiors practice, will present “Utilizing Technology to Improve the Patient Experience While Lowering the Cost of Care” at Cleveland Clinic’s 2018 Patient Experience Summit. Jocelyn will co-present alongside Mary Johnson, Chief Operating Officer of University of Minnesota Physicians, who also served as the health system’s project lead for the Clinics and Surgery Center — named one of Fast Company’s Most Innovative Spaces and Places of the Year in 2016.

Discussion will center around looking to non-health industries and advancements in technology to improve the experience and delivery of healthcare. The Clinics and Surgery Center of University of Minnesota Health offers five stories of ultra-efficient, high-tech solutions for the often stressful and tedious experience of receiving medical care. Traditional floor plans and strategies were rethought with modern solutions to create a new patient experience paradigm. Like the Apple Store, the new Clinics & Surgery Center features no central check-in or reception; instead, guests are welcomed by concierge staff, who check them in on their hand-held tablets. Both staff and guests are given RFID that track their location no matter where they are in the facility, ensuring that no patient waits for too long, and freeing them to experience other amenity spaces in the building, rather than being tied to a traditional waiting room. Innovative technology adapted from other industries enables a patient experience that is centered upon convenience and accessibility. Outcomes: An increase in patient compliments, improved satisfaction scores, increased efficiency and a lower cost of care.
