Punit JainPunit Jain, AIA, LEED Fellow, will present the Yale Sterling Chemistry Lab renovation at this year’s Tradeline Science & Engineering Facilities Conference.

Higher education facilities around the US are facing the challenge of aging labs inside existing buildings — some with historical value and importance to the campus fabric. Yale University’s Sterling Chemistry Lab is one such facility that has undergone a major transformation while preserving the exterior architecture of the historic building. Additionally, with an increased emphasis on improving STEM teaching at Yale, this 80,000 sf renovation has improved the university’s capability to meet the demands of 21st-century learning environments.

Punit will examine state-of-the-art lab configurations, demonstrate project phasing strategies for productive occupancy while under construction, and scope out energy use reduction and sustainability opportunities associated with water conservation, HVAC system improvements, and a unique recirculated water system.
