CannonDesign’s Kevin Sticht and NEUF Architect(e)s’ Azad Chichmanian will be presenting at the European Healthcare Design Congress & Exhibition at the Royal College of Physicians London on June 27th. The presentation, titled “The P3 hospital as cultural centre: The architecture and public spaces of the new Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM),” will shed light on the CHUM’s dual role as a hospital and cultural center.

More about the presentation topic:

In most corners of the globe, hospitals and cultural centers exist in two seperate realms that very rarely overlap. Hospitals care for the sick and keep communities healthy, while cultural centers provide a setting to celebrate the arts and the cultural attributes that make a community distinct. The new Centre Hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal’ (CHUM) – the largest healthcare construction project in North America – is radically challenging that paradigm. By harnessing an aggressive public space strategy and investing in one of the largest public art programs ever included in a healthcare facility, CHUM is bringing these two disparate realms together on a monumental scale.
