University of South Florida Breaks Ground on Dynamic Student Wellness Center

In a proud moment for the institution, the University of South Florida (USF) officially broke ground on its new Student Wellness Center earlier this week.

The three-story, 47,000 sf building will be four times the size of the existing Student Health Services building on USF’s Tampa campus. It is equipped with key spaces for general medicine, pharmacy, urgent care, sexual health, physical therapy, dermatology, mental health, infection control and more. The wellness center will be a powerful resource for the entire USF campus community.

The Center also houses a multipurpose room for a variety of wellness programming and student functions and sits amidst a wellness courtyard and recreation lawns. Both The Tampa Bay Times and The Oracle covered the exciting groundbreaking.

“This truly is a building of the students, for the students,” Dr. Joseph Puccio, executive and medical director of USF Student Health Services told media during the ceremony. “By moving forward with a significantly larger, modern, one-stop health care facility, our professional staff will be better equipped to serve our student population, ultimately helping them remain focused on their academics.”

The center completes an exciting hub for healthy student, faculty and staff lifestyles on campus as it sits adjacent to both USF’s recreation center and one of its campus dining halls. It also sits at the nexus of the Honors College and the east entry of the campus, reinforcing the relationship between wellness and academic success, and also serves as a new visual beacon for the campus.

Several of our team members were on hand for the groundbreaking ceremony to help share in the excitement with USF.
