Nearly one-acre in size, the plaza will be a dynamic hub for socialization and engagement as it offers a putting green, fire pit, bocce court, trellis bar and more. The updated outdoor plaza is another piece in ongoing renovations to update the Michigan Ave. complex that also featured our work to update the building lobby a couple years back.
In the Urbanize piece, our Michael Kmak says, “The spaces are designed to facilitate movement and connection to each other. This is true of the entire building renovation, too. The design inspiration is a deep study of how people move and meet in these Miesian environments. We distilled the raw materials as inspiration and layered in the movement of daily life to foster connection, respite and reflection.”
The outdoor plaza’s mix of amenities, access and engagement opportunities should prove a key resource in attracting employees back to in-office work as the pandemic wanes. It also serves as a space our team at 225 N. Michigan will be able to access and enjoy moving forward.
The redesigned plaza features a direct link to a newly completed tenant lounge as well as a new pedestrian access point off Lake Street. The design also includes connection points for future development. Landscape architect TGDA and general contractor Pepper Construction also helped key the project.
