Last week building commenced on Burbank School District’s new 90,000 sf K-6 elementary school. With an enrollment of 560 students, a key design element and request from the school and community was the incorporation of shared learning spaces and connection to the outdoors.

The state-of-the-art, 21st century school is named after Luther Burbank, an important figure for students, faculty and the surrounding community. A horticultural pioneer and inventor, Burbank developed more than 800 strains and varieties of plants over his 55-year career. The design team worked closely with the district to translate Burbank’s inquisitive spirit and desire to create positive change into a facility design that inspires a new generation of creators and discoverers. District construction management services are being provided by International Contactors, Inc (ICI).

Additional images and information on the school and district can be found here. The project is estimated to be completed by August 2018.
