We are pleased to announce a new partnership with Governors State University (GSU) in University Park, Illinois as they expand on-campus housing to meet growing student demand during their continued transformation from a two- to four-year institution. GSU’s existing on-campus housing is already at capacity in year two and the university has engaged CannonDesign to conduct a feasibility study for a second phase of housing and expanded dining services for residential students, along with subsequent planning and design services.
This project builds on our strong education portfolio that includes more than $600 million in construction of residential communities at 30+ campuses across the country. Our national expertise and successful track record in student housing design supports the university’s goals of creating a dynamic living and learning space that advances their Vision 2020 Strategic Plan and meets the needs of the GSU community.
“We are thrilled to partner with GSU during this unparalleled time in the university’s history,” says Jim Jankowski, FAIA and Principal in our Chicago-based education practice. “As an institution that champions openness, innovation and flexibility, GSU’s values are in sync with those of CannonDesign and I am excited to explore with our client how to bring this project to life in a way that creates the most impact for students of the university.”
Other recent and on-the-boards projects in the Chicago area include Northwestern University’s Wirtz Center and Louis Theater renovations, Harper College Recreation Center expansion and renovation, the new Theatre School at DePaul University, and Malcolm X College for City Colleges of Chicago.
