We’re excited to announce that two of our Corporate/Commercial projects received Design Excellence Awards from the Chicago chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA): CJ Blossom Park earned the Distinguished Building Award Citation of Merit, and Echo Global Logistics took home a Divine Detail Special Recognition for Architectural Branding.
CJ Blossom park is the world-class research and development headquarters for CJ Corporation. Designed to reflect the company’s “Only One” spirit, the facility was conceptualized to support a scientific workplace with an array of amenities to foster creativity and innovation—essentially, a living discovery center that nurtures emerging ideas for a better life. Three towers wrapped in a curving mullion-less glass and custom scrim rise around a central atrium that cultivates interconnectivity and engagement with fluid circulation, while enriching all with natural light. The base of the building is metaphorically the seed from which all else blossomed.
The formula for an echo, 1100 ft/sec=110’/0.1 sec, serves as the backbone of transportation logistics and the driving force of Echo Global Logistics’ 135,000 sf expansion within raw warehouse space. The design is seminal to the mission of the organization, utilizing industrial materials deployed in transportation and highlighting movement. The “ECHO Wall” dominates the street-level lobby, with letters set at different angles to create an experience as to how each is viewed, and their perception changing with distance and time. The aesthetic of a new monumental stair feels true to the building’s history, while a canopy of undulating polished steel above reflects the stair’s visual energy, activating emptiness with movement.
