We are proud to share that the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Western New York (WNY) chapter recently recognized Cheri Weatherston with its 2018 Young Architect Award. With broad experience in the architecture and interior design of K-12, higher education and health facilities, Cheri is a dynamic leader for our firm. In recognizing her, the AIA WNY cited her numerous accomplishments, including:
- Cheri stands out for her ability to work across a broad range of projects. While managing her work, Cheri co-founded EMERGE, CannonDesign’s most successful talent development network, and still serves on its steering committee.
- She also directs Amp, our internal incubator focused on surfacing new products and services to help clients and advance our industry. Already, concepts and ideas from Amp have received national media attention.
- Cheri serves on the Buffalo Architectural Foundation (BAF) Board of Directors, served as Co-Chair to the 2017 Architecture + Education program to build interest and engagement in design for K12 students, and is serving as the organization’s program chair for 2019. Cheri also taught design courses for SUNY Buffalo State’s interior design department.
The AIA WNY officially recognized Cheri during an awards ceremony on Thurs., Jan. 17 which her family, friends and numerous colleagues were able to attend. This is the second straight year a CannonDesign employee has received the Young Architect award, with Stephanie Vito earning the honor for 2017. Also, our York University Student Centre project received a project design award from the AIA WNY.
