Harper imageGroundbreaking commenced on a 130,000 sf Health and Recreation Center (also known as Building M) at William Rainey Harper College. With estimated completion set for the fall of 2018, the renovated facility will include renovated aquatic and gymnasium spaces expanded fitness and athletic areas, and classrooms. What was once a somewhat isolated building will become a focal point for campus life fully integrated with its surrounding educational environment.

The project is a great example of a successful collaboration amongst multiple parties with varying goals. In addition to Harper College, Northwest Community Healthcare and Palatine Park District have also been closely involved in the development process – they will run the wellness clinic and oversee pool operations respectively. Mortenson Construction is serving as construction manager. Once completed, the building will create a dynamic and comfortable space for students and staff at Harper College, as well as members of the neighboring community.

Additional details about the groundbreaking ceremony can be found in this press release and via Health Facilities Management. More images from the groundbreaking ceremony can be found here.
