mcallister headshotWe are proud to announce John McAllister has been named to the St. Louis Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 list for 2017. John’s submission stood out amidst more than 450 nominations the business journal received from applicants from all types and kinds of businesses in and around St. Louis. The full list of St. Louis Business Journal 40 Under 40 recipients can be viewed online and below is John’s nomination narrative.

John McAllister is a remarkable advocate for St. Louis design culture. An award-winning designer and leader at CannonDesign, John is consistently  recognized by his peers for creating dynamic architecture on local and national levels (earning 17 awards). Collectively, he’s designed 1.6 million sf of space and $502 million in project construction.

In his 10 years with CannonDesign, John’s work has enriched 12 different states and is leading positive change in the landscape and daily experience of thousands of people. Through his work with  high-profile St. Louis institutions including the University of Missouri system, St. Louis Public Library, Solae Corporation, Webster University and the St. Louis College of Pharmacy (STLCOP), John has contributed places and spaces that will strengthen St. Louis long into the future. John is also a leading voice in the local design community, regularly speaking at local events including the Urban Land Institute conference.

John’s design distinctions include the prestigious Chicago Athenaeum American Architecture Award for the St. Louis Central Public Library and AIA Central States and AIA St. Louis awards for work with STLCOP and University of Missouri-St. Louis, respectively.

John carries his design passion into his personal life, having recently built a house with his wife (also an architect) in the Botanical Heights neighborhood of St. Louis where they live with their daughter and their two dogs and cat. John holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Kansas and is also an Associate AIA member of the Urban Land Institute focused on strengthening the St. Louis community.
