Karl Leabo, AIA, LEED AP joined the CannonDesign Sports Team, based in Boston, on January 3, 2017 as Senior Sports Planner/Designer. As a Senior Vice President, Karl will strengthen the team by developing collaborative client partnerships, leading multidisciplinary project teams, and helping clients achieve strategic goals and improve performance.
Lynne Deninger, Office Practice Leader, says, “adding Karl to the Boston Sports practice at this time will help us to meet the growing needs of this market. Karl’s strength of transforming existing buildings into sports/rec facilities will greatly enhance our team’s capabilities.”
A former member of the CannonDesign team, Karl rejoins the firm with more than 30 years of experience as a project designer and team leader. With a focus on the college/university and sports/recreation markets, his projects have ranged from master planning and programming of new indoor and outdoor developments to the renovation and expansion of existing facilities at college and university campuses nationwide. His work has covered every form of sports activity undertaken by the competitive athlete and recreation enthusiast.
A few of Karl’s recent projects include: Koskinen Stadium and track complex at Duke University, Durham, NC; the new football stadium and track complex at Williams College, Williamstown, MA; Boston University’s New Balance Field complex, Boston, MA; the LEED-Gold Houston Gym and Recreation Center at Buffalo State, Buffalo, NY; the campus athletic center and field house at The Pingry School, Martinsville NJ; and, the campus athletic and recreation center at Siena College, Loudonville NY.

A native of Manhattan, Karl graduated from the Cornell University with a Bachelor of Architecture degree. Karl and his wife, Gale Pryor, have three grown sons. In his spare time, Karl enjoys triathlons, running, squash and strength training.
