Lassonde Studios received a special citation in the Residence Hall category of this year’s Architectural Portfolio. Published in the November issue of American School & University, the Architectural Portfolio celebrates architects and education institutions for their achievements in outstanding school design. The facility was recognized for its “Intriguing building form and mixed residential program. Interiors help convey an interactive social environment,” as stated by the 2017 jury. The citation is the highest award given in each category.

The recognition comes as the Lassonde Entrepreneur Institute, an interdisciplinary division of the David Eccles School of Business at the University of Utah, releases its annual report for 2016-17. The report shows significant growth and achievements since the opening of Lassonde Studios, including:

  • 329 student startup teams formed
  • $663,000 awarded in scholarships
  • 236 students trained on prototyping equipment

The full report can be found here for reference, and a press release can be found here with additional information. Students moved into Lassonde Studios in August 2016, with the first 400 residents ranging from freshmen to Ph.D. students and representing 44 different areas of study. Developed by EDA Architecture in association with CannonDesign, the facility has been featured in The New York Times, Architectural Digest, Fast Company, and numerous other national and trade outlets.
