Mike Cavanaugh, a vice president and designer in our Boston office, has been named CannonDesign’s firm-wide sustainability leader. A long-time advocate for environmental issues related to the built environment and the planet at large, Mike will be responsible for ensuring we continue to integrate sustainability into all facets of our business.
In his more than seven years with CannonDesign, Mike has demonstrated expertise as an architect and technical leader on an array of complex healthcare, higher education and laboratory projects, infusing sustainable strategies — big and small — throughout the design process. Over the past five years, he has worked as the project architect for a large pharmaceutical research company in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and for the last three years, he’s served as a process leader and led the implementation of the firm’s process improvement efforts across seven offices.
Mike will work with key leaders in the firm to align goals and advance our practices to further integrate sustainability into everything we do. Immediate action items include developing a clear methodology to embed sustainability into all project review processes and reinforcing our commitment to the AIA 2030 challenge. Our goal for 2015-2020 is to design for a 70% energy reduction in all of our work that affects building envelopes and systems.
