The University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) is set to publicly unveil their 172,000 sf and 6,000 seat event center this Saturday, Feb. 3 when the school’s basketball teams take on Vermont.
Excitement is building for the public unveiling and UMBC President Freeman Hrabowski recently told media, “the completion of the Event Center marks an important milestone in UMBC’s evolution. This venue will provide our athletic teams with an exceptional home base while also enabling us to hose more events focused on the arts, culture and the life of the mind.” Already, key media including The Baltimore Sun, Fox Baltimore and UMBC’s own website are promoting the facility’s opening.
The UMBC Event Center is a comprehensive, all-in-one athletics venue designed as one of the premier mid-major NCAA Division 1 facilities in the country. The event center will be home to the UMBC Retrievers M&W basketball programs and women’s volleyball team. Flexible and multi-purpose in nature, the event center has seating capacity for 5,000 in its stadium bowl and an additional 1,000 on the floor. The center will be used for commencement, concerts and various public speaker events and is equipped with concessions, catering, hospitality and guest amenities.
For those interested in a glimpse of the facility in action, this Saturday’s big game will be broadcast on ESPN 3.
